About The Artist: John Francis Murphy (1853–1921) was a self-taught American landscape painter known for poetic, refined scenes. He founded the Pakatakan Artist Colony and became a National Academy of Design academician. Influenced by Wyant and Inness, his later work explored light and air. He earned many awards and died in New York.
