About The Artist: Sawrey Gilpin RA (1733–1807) was a renowned English painter of horses and dogs. Supported by the Duke of Cumberland, he became a Royal Academician and exhibited widely. Gilpin often collaborated with artists for landscapes and figures, and his work influenced future animal painters, including his son and pupils.
